Elon Musk has confirmed that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will audit the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Posting on the X platform, Musk said that an audit of the agency is “going to happen.” Although the IRS undergoes annual audits by the U.S. Government Accountability Office, these processes are primarily focused on ensuring that the agency follows its protocols, rather than an effort to reduce waste and inefficiency.
In fact, the Biden administration has overseen an aggressive expansion of the agency and its harassment of American workers.
In May, the agency demanded another $20 billion from Congress to hire 14,000 more employees as part of an effort to “better serve taxpayers.”
His pleas came less than two years after Congress passed the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, which included a staggering $80 billion in funding for the agency to expand its operations and hire tens of thousands of agents.
Musk, who is already charged with running a number of multibillion-dollar companies, was tapped by Trump to lead DOGE alongside entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. According to Trump, Musk will be asked to “dismantle government bureaucracy, reduce excessive regulations, cut unnecessary spending, and restructure federal agencies – essential to the ‘Save America’ movement.”
Gonna happen 😂 https://t.co/QvYyGKvr2n

He explained at the time:
“It could potentially become ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time. Republican politicians have dreamed of ‘DOGE’ goals for a long time.”
